'Guys and Dolls SR.' auditions are Feb. 8
Springfield Civic Theatre is presenting an area premiere of “Guys and Dolls, SR.” an adaptation of the classic Broadway musical in which all participants must be 55 or older.
Auditions will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Rickly Commons Auditorium at the Masonic Home, 2655 W. National Road, with performances April 9-11 in the John Legend Theater.
With the stipulation that you must be at least 55, all roles are open to people of any race, ethnicity, gender identity, body type, and ability. We welcome people with no acting experience and those who have been in many shows. Everyone who auditions will be cast.
Auditioners will be taught a song from the show and can then sing it as their vocal audition or can sing their own selected material. An accompanist will be provided.
“Guys and Dolls” is based on Damon Runyons’ stories about New York City gamblers and missionaries, featuring iconic songs such as “Luck Be A Lady,” “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat,” and “A Bushel and A Peck.” The plot centers on the romance between high-rolling Sky Masterson and missionary Sarah Brown, and the long-running engagement of Nathan Detroit and Miss Adelaide, set against a backdrop of underground craps games and the “Save-a-Soul” mission. It premiered on Broadway in 1950 and won a Tony for Best Musical.
This production will be directed and choreographed by Becky Brunsman, with music direction by Suzanne Grote.
